This version of
AMBULANT provides support for use of the player as an
HTML browser plug-in. The plug-in may be used
as a conventional stand-alone plug-in, and, for
Safari, also smilState. Three versions of the plug-in
exist: two for Mozilla Firefox (for WIN32 and Linux)
and one for Safari (MAC OS).
The current plug-in version of
AMBULANT has a number of important restrictions:
- The Win32 Version does not work with Vista yet.
- Using the plug-in with networked content can result in strange video and animation effects. The plug-in still has a tendancy to crash. Using the plug-in with the various download versions of the demos provides more predictable results. We expect this to be fixed in a revised version due out in mid-December 2008.
- You must read (and follow!) the installation instructions.
- The AMBULANT player plug-in will auto-start (this is configurable). It obeys the START, STOP, PAUSE, RESTART, RESUME javascript control commands from the HTML page.
- Demo versions for using the plug-in with and without buttons are also provided. Please see the Ambulant Demos page. You may use these as confidence tests after you install the plugin.

The full AMBULANT SMIL Player is provided in two formats: an open source distribution that can be built on Linux, Mac OS X and Windows systems, and a set of convenience installers that have been pre-built for various platforms.
