The Autonomous Systems of Trade Agents in E-Commerce (ASTA) project concerns research on systems of trading software agents ("trade agents'') in electronic commerce. Principle research lines are relating agent technologies to feasible e-commerce application areas and the development of a modeling and code generation system for this relation; the construction of computer-aided adaptive trade agent strategies and implicit learning systems for interaction and transaction (like negotiation and profiling), with the investigation of emergent behaviour of trade agent systems in e-commerce; and the development of experimental prototypes, practical experience and solutions, and guidelines for application of agent systems in actual commercial situations.

The ASTA project is funded by the Telematics institute. Principal partners are the Sen-4 theme group of the Centre for Mathematics and Computer Science (CWI), TNO, ING and KPN. Project leader is Han La Poutré from CWI. The ASTA project started in January 2000 and will continue until December 2003.
